Luke's Place:
Luke’s Place is funded through the non profit organization, Jigsaw Project. The camp will give children a chance to experience nature with other autistic peers while giving parents respite time and the ability to socialize with other parents. Luke’s Place is currently being planned on 40 acres in the Moonridge area of Big Bear, Ca. The site is mostly raw land backed up to national forest on one side with one 6500 sq ft single family residence. This structure will be modified to accommodate small groups of campers while the rest of the site is being planned and built. The goal of the founders is to provide the camp at low cost or provide scholarships for families through private donations.
Luke’s Place is for mild to moderate children on the Autism spectrum. Therapeutic based programs will be offered to improve fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and sensory activities. Campers will be able to participate in adaptive recreation activities to improve social skills while promoting cooperation and turn taking. All activities will be used to encourage language. Daily visual schedules will be posted, in order for campers to be prepared for upcoming activities.
Activities will include swimming, hiking, soccer, baseball, archery, arts and crafts, game room, sensory room, camp fire, performing arts, field trips to local activities and other activities. Our goal is for kids to come, enjoy nature and have FUN, FUN, FUN
